The basic idea underlying the design of this building is to implement the structure of a village in a vertical urban form within today’s apartment complex construction. Stacked pavements in the form of pergolas each of which are shared by 4 flats serve as places to meet and socialise. There are spacious public courts as well as squares at different levels of the building that can be used by all tenants. Each is designed according to different purposes: as a garden, as an area for celebration, as a play area. These micro open spaces are intended to encourage conversation amongst the residents and thus to help deepen neighbourly relations. Concerning the mere functional aspect of the building, it consists of eight different types of flats ranging from one-person flats to four-person flats. Townhouses have also been integrated in a diverse combination. 60% of the flats are part of public housing. Furthermore a daycare centre has been incorporated in the building. It contributes to the social interaction and adjusts to modern urban needs. The joint use of facilities initiates the development of a community, of identity, of security and brings happiness into people's lives! It is not only a place where people merely reside, it is a place where people live. Here you (whether man, woman or child) are experiencing life!

Regarding public housing, the biggest challenge is often how to conduct simple things to a high quality standard and not have them turn into something vapid. The architects succeeded in an excellent manner to find enough room to manoeuvre through this task with its strict regulations down to the last detail concerning quantity and financing. In alignment with the street a vertical urban structure of a village was designed functioning as a planned urban edge. Storey courts and extra-deep balconies are forming micro open spaces. The macro open space of the public street merges with the semi-public transitory areas thus creating an urban interlinking. With its distinguishing communal spaces that have been created by skillfully applying proportion and structure, this construction is a contrast to the often extruder-like, schematised types of flats of apartment complexes. The pergolas and semi-private intermediate areas are part of the communal spaces and are designed to invite you to stay. At the different levels of the building you find spacious communal squares of high quality open to all residents. The functional compound of one- up to four-person flats with a size of 90 square metres and of integrated maisonette-townhouses results in a sustainable mix of flats corresponding to the demographic change. The layouts are quintessential and concise. Here, we finally have a construction that manages the basic task of architecture, namely the creation of housing, in an excellent way due to its coherence which is extending over several levels.
